Police service commission promotes 12 commissioners, other senior officers

The Police Service Commission (PSC) approved the promotion of 5,718 senior police officers from the force’s general duty and specialised cadres on Thursday.

The panel also authorized the promotion of 12 Commissioners of Police to the next position of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, as well as the promotion of 19 Deputy Commissioners of Police to the substantive status of Commissioners.

The commission’s chairman, Solomon Arase, who made the announcement in Abuja, also stated that 21 Assistant Commissioners of Police were promoted to the next rank of DCPs, while 33 Chief Superintendents of Police were promoted to Assistant Commissioners.

Arase urged that newly promoted police maintain a policing culture based on a people-friendly attitude, respect for citizens’ fundamental rights, and an unyielding fighting spirit in dealing with societal problems.

He stated that for the specialists cadre, the commission approved the promotion of two ACPs, one from airwing and the other from forensic, to the next rank of Deputy Commissioners, as well as the promotion of 47 CSPs to the rank of ACP, consisting of 23 Medical Doctors and 24 Veterinary Doctors.

According to him, 190 Superintendents of Police from the Computer Information Technology Unit were promoted, as were another 8 from Works; one workshop; twelve transport; two forensic; two handwriting; one ballet; one religion; and one veterinary doctor.

47 specialists from various Units and ranks of Assistant Superintendents of Police were promoted to Deputy Superintendents.

The Commission also approved the promotion of 265 Superintendents of Police to Chief Superintendents, 59 DSP to Superintendents, 4750 Assistant Superintendents, and another 146 Assistant Superintendents upgraded to Deputy Superintendents who were omitted during the May 2022 promotion procedure.

Arase also praised the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for working with the Commission to ensure that, for the first time in a long time, promotions had infiltrated all departments of the Force.

“This singular act I hope will motivate the workforce to give back their best in ensuring that issues of crimes and criminality are properly dealt with,” the former IGP said.
