Tinubu returns to Abuja after Saudi trip

President Bola Tinubu returned to Nigeria on Thursday evening after attending the Saudi-Africa Summit and Guinea Bissau’s 50th Independence Day celebrations.

Tinubu left Abuja on November 9 to attend the Saudi-Africa Summit in Riyadh, which aimed to attract more Foreign Direct Investment and improve business partnerships, among other things.

The first Saudi-Africa Summit focused on supporting joint action, improving political coordination, addressing regional security threats, facilitating economic transformation through research and local development of new energy solutions, and strengthening cross-sector investment cooperation.

Tinubu left Saudi Arabia on Wednesday night and landed in Guinea Bissau early Thursday morning to accept the country’s President’s invitation to the 50th anniversary of its independence.

The President, who also serves as Chairman of ECOWAS, was accompanied by the African Union’s Chairman, Azaali Assoumani, and five other Heads of State in the ceremony, which featured historic, cultural, and military demonstrations.

Umaro Sissoco Embalo, President of Guinea-Bissau, congratulated all leaders for accepting the invitation, particularly the allies who had supported the country’s stability and progress, such as Nigeria.

Looking back on the country’s 50th anniversary, Embalo stated that the country had made progress by strengthening contacts with other countries, guaranteeing that his government will maintain and expand commercial and humanitarian ties.

Other Heads of State present at the occasion included Dennis Sassou N’Guesso, President of Congo, Brice Clotaire Engeuma, Transitional President of Gabon, Adama Barrow, President of The Gambia, and Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of Brazil.

Sousa, President of Portugal, and Sierra Leone’s Julius Maada Bio.

Tinubu returned to Nigeria shortly after the festivities ended, about 4 p.m.
