Mohbad: Police set Naira Marley, Sammy Larry free

The Lagos State Police Command released controversial musician Azeez Fashola, alias Naira Marley, and his companion, Balogun Samson, commonly known as Sammy Larry, on Friday, November 17, 2023, after they met their bail terms.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, announced this on Friday in a brief statement, adding, “Naira Marley and Sammy Larry, having met their bail conditions, have been released.”

Hundeyin, a Superintendent of Police, made the announcement on Friday afternoon, following the completion of the artiste’s and socialite’s release conditions granted by a Lagos State Magistrates’ Court.

On Monday, November 6, the court granted both of them bail in the sum of N20 million with three responsible sureties.

“As part of the bail conditions, the defendants are to surrender their passports and make weekly appearances at the State Criminal Investigation Department (Panti, Yaba, Lagos),” the court ruled.

They were arrested as part of an inquiry into the death of a singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, alias Mohbad, after videos of the late singer being assaulted circulated online.

On Tuesday, September 12, 2023, Mohbad died in dubious circumstances.

Prior to his death, the singer complained that he was being persecuted by his previous record label, Marlian Music, which was owned by Bob Marley.

Saturday Beats had paid a visit to Panti (where they were imprisoned) on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, a day after Naira Marley was arrested. Even as Nigerians demanded a thorough probe, the couple was noted to be depressed.
