Taraba gov presents N311.3bn 2024 budget to State Assembly
Taraba state governor Agbu Kefas presented the state House of Assembly with the 2024 budget on Friday, December 15.
A breakdown of the appropriation bill, titled: “Budget of Moving Forward,” shows that N111,669,595,358.59 is for recurrent expenditure representing 39.5% while N199,708,930,303.37 is for capital expenditure representing 64.1% of the budget.
Education had the greatest sectoral allocation of N43,208,278,849.28, or 13.9% of the budget.
The allocation for health is N33,54,686,848.00k, which represents 10.6% of the budget, and the allocation for works is N24,804,232,263.17, which represents 8.0% of the budget.
The governor stated that the budget is based on his administration’s five-finger strategy, which includes education, security, women/youth development, infrastructure, and health.
He noted that the budget will prioritize education, especially teacher training and school improvement.
According to Kefas, 5% of the budget will be given to the Greening Taraba Project to conserve the state’s natural beauty and counteract the effects of climate change.
Speaker of the House, John Kizito Bonzena, praised the State’s good working relationship between the government and the legislature. He promised that the budget would be passed quickly in order to meet the January-December deadline.
