Alleged fraud: Suspended minister, Betta Edu to face EFCC Tuesday
Betta Edu, the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, is set to report to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, January 9.
President Bola Tinubu suspended Edu on Monday, January 8, following an alleged N585 million cash transfer issue.
According to a top source in the anti-graft commission, the minister was invited in response to President Tinubu’s request for a complete probe of her conduct in the ministry.
Meanwhile, the EFCC questioned Sadiya Farouq, Edu’s predecessor, on Monday over charges that she laundered N37.1 billion while serving as a minister in former President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet.
Farouq was still at the EFCC office around 6 p.m. on Monday.
Edu was proven to be engaged in a N585 million disbursement scam involving her ministry, drawing considerable criticism from rights groups and campaigners.
