Amusan in Kazakhstan establishes new 60-meter hurdles record

Former World Champion Tobi Amusan returned to the track in 2024 with another sensational performance, setting a new African record in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.77 seconds to win the Astana Indoor Meet in Kazakhstan.

Amusan, the 2022 100m hurdles World Champion, was dethroned in 2023 in Budapest, Hungary, by Jamaica’s Danielle Williams, following her sixth-place performance in the star-studded final.

The Nigerian began the year with another outstanding performance, surpassing American Nia Ali to second place in the final in 7.77 seconds, erasing Gloria Alozie’s African record of 7.82 seconds.

Amusan, who had previously won heat two in 7.91 seconds, concluded the day in 7.77 seconds to claim the title.

It is anticipated that the champion of the Commonwealth Games will participate in the 2024 New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston, United States.
