Ademola Lookman, an Atalanta winger, has become the fourth Nigerian player to score three or more goals in the knockout stages of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Lookman joined the elite list after scoring the winning goal in the Super Eagles’ hard-fought 1-0 victory over Angolan side Palancas Negras on Friday night.
The 26-year-old scored twice in Nigeria’s Round of 16 victory against long-time rivals Cameroon last Saturday.
The late Rashidi Yekini was the first Nigerian to accomplish this accomplishment at the AFCON 1994 finals in Tunisia.
Former footballer Austine Jay Jay Okocha joined him on the list for the 2004 event, which was hosted by Tunisia.
Odion Ighalo had also accomplished the feat in Egypt five years prior.
