JUST IN: Former Yobe gov, Bukar Ibrahim, dies 75

Bukar Abba Ibrahim, former governor of Yobe State, has died.

At the age of 75, he reportedly died in Saudi Arabia following a lengthy illness.

Bukar Abba Ibrahim, born in 1949, was governor of Yobe State from May 29, 1999 to May 29, 2007. He previously served as the state’s first elected governor from January 1992 to November 1993, during the abortive Third Republic.

In 2007, he was elected to the Senate to represent Yobe East. He ran for re-election in the 2011 Senatorial election for Yobe East on the ANPP platform and won until 2015, when he relinquished his Senate seat to Ibrahim Gaidam, another former governor of Yobe State.
