John Ikechukwu Okafor, better known by his stage name Mr. Ibu, was an actor, comedian, singer, and producer from Nigeria.

Here are the 8 facts you should know about Mr. Ibu:


1. Mr. Ibu passed away on March 2, 2024, and was born in Enugu State on October 17, 1961.The seasoned performer was regarded as one of Nigeria’s most gifted comedians.

2. When Mr. Ibu first entered the Nigerian film industry in 1998, producers would not allow him to show off his skills in important films, thus he was unable to land lucrative roles.

3. Mr. Ibu became well-known in 2004 thanks to his role in the popular comedy film “Mr. Ibu.” He played a troubled son’s father. As the son, Osita Iheme played the part.

4. He won the 2005 Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Comic Actor in Nigeria for his role in the movie.

5. Mr. Ibu starred in almost 200 Nollywood movies, including Keziah, Police Recruit, 9 Wives, Mr. Ibu in Prison, Mr. Ibu and His Son, Coffin Producers, Husband Suppliers, and International Players.

6. Mr. Ibu had his leg amputated in November 2023 as a result of a medical condition that necessitated seven surgeries. According to his family, the amputation was performed in order to prolong his life and improve his prognosis.

7. Regretfully, Mr. Ibu passed away on March 2, 2024, at the age of sixty-two.
