What you need to know about Kingsley Moghalu, the Nigerian Political Economist

Kingsley Chiedu Moghalu OON is a Nigerian political economist, lawyer, published author, keynote speaker, columnist, and presidential candidate for 2023.

Moghalu was born in Lagos on May 7, 1963. He is the first of five children. He is from Nnewi, Anambra State.

Moghalu earned a law degree from the University of Nigeria Nsukka and was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1987.

In 1992, Moghalu earned a Master of Arts degree from Tufts University’s Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, where he was a Joan Gillespie Fellow and research assistant in the International Political Economy department.

He served as the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria from 2009 to 2014, after being nominated by President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

 

He served as a Professor of Practice in International Business and Public Policy at Tufts University’s Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy between 2015 and 2017.

 

In the February 2019 national elections, he campaigned for president of the Youth Progress Party (YPP).

Moghalu served on the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), Committee of Governors (CoG), and Board of Directors, as well as President Goodluck Jonathan’s Economic Management Team.

Moghalu is the founder and CEO of Sogato Strategies, a worldwide investment advising firm, as well as the president of the Institute for Governance and Economic Transformation (IGET).

Moghalu chaired the boards of directors for the Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM) and the Financial Institutions Training Centre.

 

In October 2019, Moghalu resigned from the YPP. In October 2021, he declared that he will join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to run for president in the 2023 general election.
