AY, Basketmouth reconcile after 18-year feud

Published

on

In a surprising turn of events, Nigerian comedy heavyweights AY Makun and Basketmouth have reconciled after nearly two decades of tension.

The pair shocked fans on Wednesday with a collaborative skit shared on Instagram, marking their first public collaboration since their fallout in 2006.

The skit, which also featured veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD), was created to promote their upcoming films.

The longstanding feud between AY and Basketmouth reportedly stemmed from a financial disagreement. In a March 2023 interview with Chude Jideonwo, AY revealed that the conflict began when Basketmouth allegedly failed to pay him for a gig.

According to AY, he had performed at an event Basketmouth organized, for which the organizers had paid Basketmouth N30,000. However, AY claimed he never received the payment.

Despite the allegation, Basketmouth chose not to directly respond at the time and expressed his desire to avoid further interaction with AY. Their feud, which lasted over 18 years, had cast a shadow over their careers and divided their fan bases.

Now, with both comedians seemingly ready to move on, they are focusing on their individual projects. Basketmouth’s highly anticipated movie, A Ghetto Love Story, is set to premiere on November 22, while AY’s latest film, The Waiter, will hit theaters on December 20.

This reconciliation has delighted fans and raised hopes for more future collaborations between the two comedy icons.
