Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister, has clarified the reasons behind his request for some permanent secretaries to acknowledge President Bola Tinubu during a public event.
During the inauguration of the N20 arterial road in the FCT, Wike prompted certain permanent secretaries to show appreciation to President Tinubu, drawing laughter from the audience.
However, this action received criticism on social media, with many viewing it as unnecessary and demeaning.
Addressing the issue during the commissioning of another FCT project, Wike explained that his intention was to express gratitude to President Tinubu for his role in promoting career progression within the FCTA.
He highlighted that President Tinubu’s support had enabled individuals who had lost hope in their career advancement to reach the peak of their professions as permanent secretaries.
Despite the criticism, Wike emphasized the importance of acknowledging President Tinubu’s contributions and fostering a culture of appreciation.
To reinforce his message, Wike also invited local council chairmen, whom he referred to as “change agents of renewed hope agenda,” to show appreciation to President Tinubu.
