A tragic accident on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos early Saturday morning resulted in one fatality
The incident involved a Mini Truck with the registration number MUS 489 XS and a Toyota Camry bearing the plate KRD 470 JD.
According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), preliminary investigations indicated that the crash was caused by excessive speeding during a heavy rainstorm.
In a statement released by Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at LASTMA, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr. Sola Giwa, confirmed that three other individuals were rescued at the scene.
LASTMA officers responded quickly to the accident, which took place near the University of Lagos waterfront, en route to the Iyana-Oworonsoki area.
Mr. Giwa lamented that despite the government’s efforts to educate drivers about adhering to speed limits, many continue to violate the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.
He urged both commercial and private vehicle drivers to maintain safe speeds on the Third Mainland Bridge and other roads across Lagos State.
The deceased was removed by officials from the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU), and LASTMA cleared the wreckage to restore traffic flow on the bridge.
Mr. Giwa expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and reiterated the critical importance of road safety.
