Nigerian Afrobeat star David Adeleke, known as Davido, has recently addressed the ongoing custody battle with Sophia Momodu, the mother of his first daughter.
Davido has stated that he is seeking joint custody of their daughter, Imade.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the custody issue is currently being litigated in court.
Davido expressed his frustration over Sophia frequently mentioning the tragic death of his son in 2022.
In an Instagram story, he wrote: “You constantly bring up the death of my child to remind us of this tragedy that haunts us every day of our lives. Imade will grow up knowing I fought for her. For now, you can have her. P.S. She won’t be a child forever. Enjoy, Imade Aurora Adeleke! Your father loves you! All I ask for is JOINT CUSTODY!! And nothing else! But because it’s ‘Davido,’ you all act like you can’t read. Smh… I’m off this! I hope this never happens to you. Joint custody means both parents will have access to the child, while sole custody means only a single parent will have access.”
Sophia Momodu, however, has urged the Lagos State High Court in Sabo, Yaba, not to grant custody to Davido. In a counter-affidavit, she argued that Davido is often unavailable and does not have the capacity to care for their daughter properly.
She further claimed that despite Davido’s assertions that he has consistently met his financial obligations, there was a time when their daughter was nearly expelled from school due to unpaid tuition fees. Momodu also noted that during their relationship, Davido did not show true commitment or love toward their daughter.
