NJC recommends Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as next CJN

In a significant development, the National Judicial Council (NJC) has put forward the name of Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the next Chief Justice of Nigeria.

The recommendation was made during an unscheduled closed-door meeting in Abuja, initially planned for Friday but moved up to Thursday.

In addition to Justice Kekere-Ekun’s nomination, the NJC also recommended 27 others for appointments as judges in various state high courts. The meeting where these decisions were made is still ongoing, indicating further announcements may follow.

Justice Kekere-Ekun is set to succeed the current Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, who will retire on August 22, upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70.
