Nigerian Stock Market loses N57bn in 24hrs

The Nigerian stock market recorded losses for the fourth consecutive session, shedding N57 billion as a result of persistent sell-offs in major stocks like FBN Holdings, Access Corporation, and Transnational Corporation, among others.

The market capitalisation, which began the day at N55.188 trillion, dipped by N57 billion or 0.10 per cent, closing at N55.131 trillion.

Similarly, the All-Share Index decreased by 0.10 per cent, or 99.24 points, settling at 97,100.36, down from the previous day’s close of 97,199.6.

As a result, the Year-To-Date (YTD) return fell to 29.86 per cent.

Market sentiment remained negative, with 31 stocks declining against 14 gainers on the Exchange.

Oando led the list of declining stocks, dropping 9.94 per cent to close at N32.60 per share. ABC Transport followed, with a 9.52 per cent decrease, ending the day at 76k per share.

Other notable decliners included Guinea Insurance, which fell by 9.09 per cent to close at 40k, Livestock Feeds Plc, which also lost 9.09 per cent to close at N2.20, and Computer Warehouse Group, which saw a 7.69 per cent drop to close at N5.40 per share.

On the gainers’ side, Neimeth Pharmaceuticals led with a 9.55 per cent rise, closing at N2.18 per share. Total Plc followed with an 8.82 per cent increase, ending at N511.9 per share.

AIICO Insurance added 6.54 per cent to close at N1.14 per share, C&I Leasing rose by 6.07 per cent to close at N2.97 per share, and UPDC appreciated by 4.92 per cent to close at N1.28 per share.

Trading activity in the market slowed down compared to the previous session, with a 35.71 per cent decline in transaction value. A total of 271.26 million shares valued at N3.52 billion were traded in 7,233 deals, compared to 315.30 million shares worth N5.48 billion exchanged in 8,365 deals in the prior session.

Veritas Kapital dominated the volume chart, with 33.38 million shares worth N40.73 million changing hands. Sterling Nigeria followed, trading 16.65 million shares valued at N65.86 million.

AIICO saw 16.37 million shares worth N18.32 million traded, while RT Briscoe transacted 16.17 million shares valued at N28.56 million. GTCO led in value, trading 15.94 million shares worth N725.23 million.
