President Tinubu departs Abuja for China amidst jet seizure controversy

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu is set to depart Abuja for Beijing, China, on Thursday for an official visit.

The trip follows the recent seizure of three Nigerian presidential jets in France by Zhongshan Fucheng Industrial Investment Co. Ltd., a Chinese company.

The jets were seized due to a contract dispute between the Chinese firm and the Ogun State government, a matter that was adjudicated by a French court.

While one of the jets has since been released, the controversy continues to draw attention as President Tinubu prepares for his visit.

Despite the backdrop of this dispute, the Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, emphasized that Tinubu’s visit to China is for official purposes.

The President is scheduled to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping and engage with Chinese business leaders during the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

Before arriving in China, President Tinubu will have a brief layover in the United Arab Emirates. He will be accompanied by senior government officials on this important diplomatic trip.

As the visit unfolds, it is expected to be closely watched, especially in light of the recent tensions surrounding the seized aircraft.

The outcome of the meetings in China could have significant implications for Nigeria’s diplomatic and economic relations with China.
