The Nigerian film industry has been hit with yet another tragic loss as popular Nollywood actor, Big Larry, has sadly passed away.
The news was confirmed on Friday by Stanley Nwoke through an emotional Instagram post, in which he expressed deep grief over the actor’s untimely demise.
“Breaking News: Nollywood actor Big Larry has passed away. Rest in peace, Big Larry ,” Nwoke shared, adding that the details surrounding Big Larry’s passing remain unclear at this time. He further wrote, “The Nollywood community in Asaba mourns deeply . Shalom!”
Although much of Big Larry’s personal life was kept out of the public eye, his contributions to Nollywood were well-regarded, leaving a lasting impact on the industry.
The year 2024 has been especially hard on Nollywood, with the community mourning the deaths of several prominent stars, including Mr. Ibu, Amaechi Muonagor, Junior Pope, Sisi Quadri, and Ganiyu ‘Ogunjimi’ Oyeyemi.
The list also extends to other veteran actors such as Olofa Ina, Adejumoke Aderounmu, Saratu Gidado, Reginald Ebere, Ethel Ekpe, and Onyeka Onwenu.
In response to the mounting number of losses, the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) organized a four-day fasting and prayer event earlier in May, led by Pastor Jerry Eze of Streams of Joy International.
The prayer sessions, which took place from May 2 to 5 in Abuja, were aimed at addressing the alarming trend of deaths within Nollywood. AGN President, Emeka Rollas, called for unity and collective prayers, stressing that the industry “cannot continue to lose actors like this.”
The passing of Big Larry has once again cast a shadow over Nollywood, as the industry continues to grapple with the loss of its beloved stars.
