Peter Obi open to Vice-Presidential role if it benefits Nigeria’s progress

Former Labour Party presidential candidate and ex-governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has expressed his willingness to accept a vice-presidential position if he identifies someone more capable of advancing the country’s progress.

In a recent interview with New Central TV, Obi emphasized that his priority is to see Nigeria flourish in the 2027 general elections.

When asked about his stance on being a vice-presidential candidate, Obi responded, “I’m not desperate to be Nigerian president. I am desperate to see Nigeria work. If I see people who can do the work better, I will consider being Vice President.”

He noted that his focus is not on personal ambition but on Nigeria’s development.

Obi also confirmed his continued loyalty to the Labour Party but indicated that he is open to collaborations with others who share his vision for the country’s growth.

He clarified that any alliance must prioritize addressing critical issues like education and reducing the number of out-of-school children, rather than political gains.

In a separate development, the Labour Party’s National Working Committee (NWC), led by Julius Abure, has called for an investigation into Obi and other key figures, including activist Aisha Yesufu and Pastor Itua Ighodalo, over allegations of mismanagement of campaign funds during the 2023 elections.

At a press conference, factional National Publicity Secretary Abayomi Arabambi accused Obi and associates of diverting over N12 billion and $15 million in donations meant for the presidential campaign.

Arabambi also criticized Yesufu’s defense, describing her statements as an attempt to obscure the truth. The case remains under investigation, and both Obi and his associates have yet to formally respond to the allegations.
