Outrage as Poly student allegedly killed by soldiers in Lafia

Terhile Timothy Achinya, a mechanical engineering student at Isa Mustapha Agwai I Polytechnic Lafia, has reportedly been beaten to death by unidentified soldiers, sparking widespread outrage within the polytechnic community.

The incident has drawn significant attention, with Dr. Nurudeen Mu’azu Maifata, Acting Rector of the institution, calling for peace amid the turmoil.

The Students Union Government (SUG) President, Jacob John Mutuwa, confirmed the tragic event to journalists in Lafia, the state capital.

According to Mutuwa, the incident began when Samuel Ejembi, a student, reported some peers allegedly involved in cult activities to the military.

Soldiers subsequently apprehended the accused students and Ejembi at Eji World, an entertainment center near the polytechnic campus, last Friday.

Mutuwa revealed that Achinya died while in military custody, reportedly due to torture, and his body was later taken to Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH) in Lafia. Despite the shocking nature of the incident, the student body has been commended for maintaining peace.

Legal action has been initiated against the alleged perpetrators, with the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) calling for swift justice.

Comrade Daniel Friday Egga, Coordinator of NANS Zone C, has urged both the state government and concerned individuals to collaborate in seeking justice for Achinya and his family.

NANS has accused soldiers from the 123 Special Force Battalion of being involved in the incident and has urged military authorities to take immediate action.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Nasarawa State, DSP Ramhan Nansel, has promised to investigate the matter, though no further details have been provided at this time.
