Tragic accident involving Edo governorship candidate’s convoy leaves 5 dead

A tragic accident involving the campaign convoy of Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the upcoming Edo State governorship election, has left five people dead.

The horrific crash occurred on Thursday along Warrake Road in Owan East Local Government Area.

According to reports, the convoy collided head-on with a Toyota Camry, instantly killing the driver, Emmanuel Edionwe, and four other passengers.

The victims were said to be returning from a funeral when the collision happened. One other victim sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Irrua Specialist Hospital for treatment.

Eyewitnesses at the scene of the crash claimed that the convoy was speeding when one of the vehicles swerved and struck the oncoming Camry.

The bodies of the deceased were transported to the Edo State University Uzaurie Mortuary in Etsako West Local Government Area.

A relative of Emmanuel Edionwe, who spoke anonymously, expressed deep grief over the incident: “We are heartbroken. Emmanuel was such a good, easy-going boy. Now we hear that five of them are gone, with just one fighting for their life in the hospital.”

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) was on hand to evacuate the bodies, but attempts to reach the Edo State Police Command for an official comment were unsuccessful at the time of this report.

This tragic event has cast a dark shadow over the upcoming governorship election, with the families of the victims left to mourn their loved ones.
