BREAKING: 281 inmates unaccounted for after flood hits Maiduguri prison

A shocking development has unfolded in Borno State, Nigeria, as the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) announced that 281 inmates have gone missing from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Maiduguri.

The disappearance occurred during the evacuation process following a devastating flood incident in the state.

The flood, which ravaged parts of Maiduguri, prompted authorities to evacuate the prison to ensure the safety of inmates and staff.

However, in the midst of the chaos, 281 inmates managed to escape. While seven inmates have since returned to the centre, the whereabouts of the remaining missing inmates remain unknown.

In an effort to facilitate the recapture of the missing inmates, the NCS has released their biometric details. Umar Abubakar, spokesman for the service, issued a statement on Sunday in Abuja, providing the necessary information to aid in the search.

This incident raises serious concerns about prison security and the ability of authorities to prevent such escapes. The NCS has launched an investigation into the matter and is working to recapture the missing inmates.
