A fire outbreak has occurred at the Oko Baba plank market in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos State.
Emergency responders, including teams from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), are actively working to contain the blaze.
The incident was first reported by a social media user, Adedeji Olalekan, also known as #Stylomedia on X, who shared the news on Sunday.
Olalekan noted that the fire had spread to the shanties within the market, posting, “Okobaba Street is on fire now, all the shanties are burning.”
LASEMA spokesperson, Nosa Okunbor, confirmed the situation through a brief statement, adding that emergency teams, including the LASEMA Response Team, LRU Fire Unit, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, are conducting search and rescue operations at the site, which is located near Ibadan Street, Ebute Metta.
Further details regarding the cause of the fire or potential casualties are yet to be released, but efforts are ongoing to manage the situation and prevent further damage.
