The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has commenced the official loading of petrol from the Dangote Refinery in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, marking a key step toward enhancing the availability of petroleum products nationwide.
On Sunday, ten trucks arrived at the refinery’s gantries, where they were filled with petrol through a sophisticated computerized system.
The refinery, equipped with 86 gantries, is capable of simultaneously loading 86 trucks, with 40 gantries specifically dedicated to petrol loading.
This development signifies a significant milestone for the NNPC and Nigeria’s energy sector. With the Dangote Refinery capable of processing up to 54 million liters of petrol daily, this production capacity is expected to reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported fuel and contribute to significant foreign exchange savings.
Devakumar V.G. Edwin, Vice President of Dangote Industries Limited, highlighted the refinery’s contribution to stabilizing fuel supply in the country.
He noted that the number of trucks utilizing the gantries will increase over time, with the NNPC projecting a steady rise in distribution in the coming days.
This advancement is part of the NNPC’s broader strategy to ensure the availability of petroleum products and improve fuel distribution across Nigeria.
The integration of the Dangote Refinery into the nation’s fuel supply chain is expected to ease fuel shortages and strengthen local production capacity.
