Ogbete market chairman, Stephen Aniagu, assassinated in Enugu

In a tragic turn of events, the Chairman of the Ogbete Main Market Traders’ Association (OMMATA) in Enugu, Mr. Stephen Aniagu, was brutally shot and killed by unknown assailants on Saturday, September 14, 2024.

The attack occurred at approximately 7 pm as Mr. Aniagu was leaving the market after the close of business.

Eyewitnesses reported that the market leader was ambushed and shot multiple times near Moses Ogbodo Junction, close to Topland Market in the Amaechi area of Enugu South Local Government.

His body was discovered riddled with bullets, and his car had been stolen by the attackers.

One witness recounted the horrifying moment: “We heard gunshots and ran for safety. When we came out, we saw his lifeless body and realized his car was missing.”

The motive behind the assassination remains unclear, leaving the local market community in shock and mourning.

Authorities are expected to launch a thorough investigation into the killing to uncover those responsible for the heinous crime.

This tragic incident has raised concerns over the safety of traders and community leaders in the area, as many await justice for Mr. Aniagu.
