In a gesture of appreciation for their efforts in improving security in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Minister Nyesom Wike has honored two key security leaders.
The Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police, Benneth Igweh, and the Assistant Director-General (D-G) of the Department of State Services (DSS), Ado Muazu, were recognized for their dedication and impact on ensuring the safety of Abuja residents.
At a dinner held in their honor in Abuja, Wike announced the donation of a Prado Jeep to each officer as a logistical support for their new roles. “Chief of staff, make sure the AIG and the Assistant D-G get their Prado Jeeps. You have really done well for us, and God will bless you,” Wike said.
Both officers were recently promoted due to their outstanding performance. Igweh, the former Commissioner of Police for the FCT, now serves as the AIG in charge of Zone 7. Meanwhile, Muazu, the former DSS State Director for the FCT, has been promoted to Assistant Director-General and assigned to the DSS National Headquarters.
Minister Wike expressed his gratitude, particularly for Igweh’s relentless fight against crime in the FCT. He praised him for working tirelessly to protect lives and properties, often at great personal risk. Wike also lauded Muazu for his quiet but dedicated service, noting that his commitment had significantly contributed to the security of the FCT.
“We are here today to celebrate and give God the glory for these officers who have been promoted because of their hard work and dedication,” Wike said. He emphasized the importance of recognizing individuals for their contributions while they are still alive, rather than waiting until after they pass away. “These two gentlemen have worked hard to ensure that we can sleep peacefully at night, and it is only right that we honor them now.”
The minister further urged the officers to maintain their commitment to service as they take on their new roles. “As you move to your new positions, continue with that spirit of serving your fatherland and supporting the current government in protecting lives and properties,” he added.
Wike also expressed his gratitude to all security agencies in the FCT, acknowledging their collective efforts in making the capital a safer place.
Responding on behalf of both honorees, AIG Igweh expressed gratitude to the minister and the FCT Administration for recognizing their efforts.
He reassured residents of Abuja that he remained dedicated to ensuring their safety. “I want to inform Abuja residents that I am still around,” he said. “Now that I have more power as AIG, I don’t know where the criminals will run to.”
Igweh also promised continued collaboration with Wike and other security agencies to further improve the security situation in the FCT.
The recognition of these officers underscores the importance of security in Abuja and the government’s commitment to rewarding those who make significant contributions toward maintaining peace and order in the capital.
