Over 40 farmers dead in boat accident in Zamfara

More than 40 farmers have tragically lost their lives in a boat accident in Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, as confirmed by the presidency.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning while the farmers were en route to their fields.

According to Punch newspaper, a local resident, Abubakar Muhammad, reported that there were 53 farmers aboard the boat, with only 12 surviving the capsizing.

Muhammad, who witnessed the accident near the river close to Gummi town, described the scene as devastating.

President Bola Tinubu has extended his condolences to the people and government of Zamfara State in light of this tragedy and recent floods in the region.

In a statement released by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu pledged support for the victims and directed emergency agencies to conduct a thorough assessment of both incidents.

The President has also instructed response agencies to collaborate with the Zamfara State Government to provide aid and address the underlying causes of these calamities.
