The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally ended all campaigns for the 2024 Edo governorship election, effective from midnight on September 19, 2024.
This announcement was made by Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, in a statement released on Thursday.
Olumekun emphasized that the closure is in line with Section 94(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 and item 12 of the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the election. According to these provisions, no political party in Edo State is allowed to engage in further campaign activities, including rallies, processions, or media campaigns.

INEC urges all parties to focus on a smooth election process, ensuring respect for the laws and regulations in place.
This step marks a crucial point in the journey towards selecting Edo State’s next governor, with INEC ensuring a fair and regulated electoral process.
