The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results for the June/July 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), with an impressive 60.55% of candidates achieving five credits or more in key subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
NECO’s Registrar, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, made the announcement during a press briefing at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
According to Prof. Wushishi, 1,376,423 candidates registered for the exam, comprising 706,950 males and 669,473 females. This significant turnout reflects a wide student participation across the nation, with a commendable gender balance in enrollment.
Of the total number of candidates who registered, 1,367,736 students sat for the exams, with 828,284 (60.55%) achieving five credits and above, including English and Mathematics. Additionally, 1,147,597 candidates (83.90%) secured five credits in various subjects, irrespective of English and Mathematics.

In a positive development, the NECO Registrar highlighted a notable decrease in examination malpractice cases. In 2024, 8,437 candidates were involved in various forms of malpractice, compared to 12,030 in 2023, marking a 30.1% reduction.
However, 40 schools across 17 states were implicated in mass cheating. These schools will face sanctions following discussions with NECO. One school in Ekiti was recommended for de-recognition due to mass cheating in two core subjects and one science subject. Additionally, 21 supervisors were recommended for blacklisting for poor supervision and other misconducts, including negligence, extortion, and abetting malpractice.
Candidates who sat for the examination can now access their results by visiting the official NECO website [www.neco.gov.ng](http://www.neco.gov.ng) using their examination registration number.
The release of the SSCE results is a significant milestone for students across Nigeria, particularly for those seeking admission to tertiary institutions, where passing five subjects, including English and Mathematics, is crucial.
NECO continues to play a pivotal role in promoting academic integrity and excellence nationwide.
