Musk donates $75m to support Trump’s presidential bid
Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has made a bold political move by contributing nearly $75 million to a political action committee (PAC) he created to support Donald Trump’s 2024 U.S. presidential campaign.
This major donation, revealed in Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings on Tuesday, underscores Musk’s growing influence in Trump’s bid for the White House.
As the world’s richest man, Musk has taken an increasingly visible role in Trump’s campaign, including a recent appearance alongside the former president at a Pennsylvania rally.
Musk has also been vocal on social media, using his platform to criticize Trump’s Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris.
Trump has frequently praised Musk during his speeches, even promising to appoint him to a government committee aimed at slashing bureaucracy if he wins the election. The race between Trump and Harris is currently very tight, with polls indicating a closely contested battle for the presidency.
Musk’s America PAC, which focuses on grassroots efforts, raised $74.95 million between July and September 2024. The PAC is primarily targeting battleground states like Pennsylvania, which could play a pivotal role in determining the election outcome.
The group is also offering paid opportunities for individuals to help with voter turnout, advertising $30 per hour with performance-based bonuses. Musk has further incentivized efforts by offering $47 to anyone who convinces a registered swing-state voter to sign a petition supporting free speech and gun rights.
Musk’s support for Trump became particularly strong after the Republican candidate survived an assassination attempt in July 2024, solidifying the tech mogul’s backing.
On the Democratic side, Kamala Harris has also intensified her campaign efforts. The vice president’s Harris Victory Fund PAC raised $633 million during the same period.
Harris entered the race after President Joe Biden’s withdrawal following a poor debate performance against Trump earlier this year. Since then, she has reinvigorated the Democratic base, focusing her attention on key battleground states.
Her PAC’s fundraising has reached nearly $1 billion, standing at $931.2 million to date, illustrating the high stakes in this closely watched election.
As both candidates continue to raise massive amounts of money and intensify their campaigns, the 2024 presidential race is shaping up to be one of the most fiercely contested elections in recent history.
