After weeks of speculation regarding potential military action, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have confirmed they are conducting “precise strikes on military targets in Iran.”

This announcement was made early Saturday via the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

The IDF stated that these strikes are a direct response to “months of continuous attacks from the regime in Iran against the state of Israel.” This move reflects Israel’s ongoing concern over Iranian aggression, which has escalated in recent months.

In addition, the IDF emphasized that Israel’s “defensive and offensive capabilities are fully mobilised” to prepare for any retaliatory actions from Iran.

The situation continues to develop, as both nations have been engaged in a tit-for-tat exchange, raising alarms about the potential for further escalation in the region.

The Iranian regime, blaming Israel for “series of high profile killings” has, alongside its proxies in the region, “been relentlessly attacking Israel since October 7th,” spokesman for the IDF, Daniel Hagari said in a statement he read out.

He said those attacks against Israel have been waged through “seven fronts, including direct attacks from Iranian soil,” the latest of which was almost a month ago.

The IDF stressed that,”Like every other sovereign country in the world, the state of Israel has the right and the duty to respond.

“Our defensive and offensive capabilities are fully mobilised. We will do whatever necessary to defend the state of Israel and the people of Israel,” Hagari says.

Loud bangs with flashes of what appeared to be strikes could be heard in Iran, which has so far downplayed the damage with state media describing the strikes as “unsuccessful.”
