CJN intervenes in Rivers political crisis, orders probe into conflicting court rulings
In a decisive move, Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has intervened in the political turmoil in Rivers State, where Governor Siminalayi Fubara is embroiled in a contentious battle with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
Justice Kekere-Ekun has summoned judges involved in issuing conflicting rulings on related political cases in the state.
A panel under the National Judicial Council (NJC), led by a former Court of Appeal justice and including two court heads, has been formed to investigate the judges’ actions.
The CJN has demanded that a report be submitted this week, highlighting the urgency of the matter. In addition, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court has been summoned for questioning on Tuesday.

The CJN’s intervention follows formal complaints filed with the NJC, prompting a comprehensive probe into the judiciary’s role in Rivers State’s political crisis.
This step underscores the CJN’s commitment to maintaining judicial integrity and transparency, especially amidst rising concerns over conflicting judgments in politically sensitive cases.
