Manchester United is reportedly on the verge of appointing Ruben Amorim as their new head coach, following the departure of Erik Ten Hag.

The club has moved quickly, reportedly agreeing to trigger Amorim’s €10 million release clause with Sporting Lisbon, a move that could signal a fresh start for the struggling Premier League giants.

The deal was confirmed by football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who posted on X, “Manchester United are set to pay €10m exit clause for Rúben Amorim to become new manager, here we go!” Sporting Lisbon has also acknowledged formal communication from United and is already preparing to find Amorim’s replacement.

Ten Hag’s exit follows a difficult season, with United slipping to 14th in the Premier League standings after a 2-1 loss to West Ham.

Despite signing a two-year contract extension as recently as July, his tenure ended after managing only four wins in 14 matches, prompting the club’s leadership to seek a new direction.

At just 39, Amorim has built an impressive reputation for his tactical expertise and success in Portugal, making him an attractive candidate for United’s leadership.

Fans are hopeful that Amorim, known for his disciplined approach and ability to develop young talent, can bring the stability and competitive edge Manchester United desperately needs.

For now, former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, who served as Ten Hag’s assistant, will act as interim manager.

Sources close to Van Nistelrooy suggest he does not intend to pursue the permanent position, out of respect for his former colleague.

With Amorim’s anticipated arrival, fans are eager to see if his fresh perspective and tactical acumen can reinvigorate Manchester United’s performance this season.
