Nita Ambani, Founder and Chairperson of the Reliance Foundation, hosted a special, exclusive celebration at the Swadesh flagship store at Eros, dedicating the evening to honouring India’s incredible legacy of master artists and artisans. The event was a vibrant showcase of the nation’s finest indigenous crafts, perfectly mirroring the foundational mission of Swadesh: to not only preserve and promote these skills but to present this rare, truly luxury artisanal brand from India to a global audience.
Embodying the spirit of heritage that Swadesh represents, Nita Ambani’s own attire was a magnificent tribute to traditional Indian textile artistry. She wore a stunning peacock blue Banarasi saree, a masterpiece sourced directly from the Swadesh collection. The fabric was distinguished by its intricate Meena motifs and created using the time-honoured Kadhua weaving technique—a laborious method where each design element is woven individually, ensuring a rich texture and flawless finish.
Her bespoke blouse, crafted by Manish Malhotra, provided a sophisticated complement to the ancient weave. The blouse featured a delicate polki border, unique hand-painted deity buttons, and a striking vintage spinel tassel taken from Nita Ambani’s personal jewellery collection, demonstrating a seamless blend of contemporary tailoring and historical elements.

The focus on lineage and artistry extended to her exquisite accessories. She completed her look with a pair of antique kundan polki earrings believed to be over a century old, highlighting the enduring value of traditional Indian jewellery. Her hands were adorned with a handcrafted jadau bird ring from the Swadesh collection and her mother’s treasured heritage haath phool—a revered family heirloom that underscored the deep, personal connection she holds to India’s cultural past.
The gathering served as a powerful platform to put the spotlight squarely on the creators, reinforcing Nita Ambani’s vision for Swadesh as more than just a retail space. It is a movement dedicated to supporting the livelihoods, dignity, and creative continuity of India’s artisan communities, ensuring that the nation’s finest craftsmanship thrives.
